You’re not alone…
…if you’ve lost your job.
…if you’re not sure what to do next.
…if you’re embarrassed, and unsure of what the future holds.
…if your relationships are a little more strained than usual.
…if you’re questioning every choice you’ve ever made in your career.
…if you’re worried you’ll never get another job.
…if you’re thinking about settling for an “in-between” job.
…if you’re not sure where to turn.
…if you’re scared of what will happen to your savings, should you not find something fast.
What to do about it.
Relieve the stress – Talk to a trusted friend or confidant (career counsellor, clergy, personal counsellor or therapist).
Run the numbers – Find out how much money you’ll need each week and how long the money you have will last you.
Get help – Research career professionals in your area (Career Professional of Canada and Career Director’s International) who can help you devise a strategy.
Design a plan – Identify what jobs you’re interested in, and what employers exist in your local labour market.
Set a date – Decide that you will spend a certain amount of time making your very best effort to get the best job you can. After that (and not before) you might consider taking something less than perfect.
Get out there – Look for opportunities to volunteer, learn, and/or meet new people. The more you meet and connect with people, the greater your chances of learning about opportunities available to you.
Stay positive – Focus your energy on people, places, and things that bring joy into your life. Here are a few things that may help you get started.
You are certainly not alone. You have exactly what it takes to get the job you want. Whether you do it on your own, or invest in some help along the way – remember – you can do this!
“In the end it will be OK. If it is not OK……it’s not the end.”
